Public Notice: Municipal Office Remains Closed

The Municipal Office at 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley, will remain closed on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, due to ongoing service disruptions. At this time, municipal staff are unable to communicate or respond to emails or phone calls.

To support storm clean-up efforts, please avoid unnecessary travel and allow Hydro One and Public Works crews to continue their work.

The North Kawartha Community Centre (NKCC) at 340 McFadden Road, Apsley, is open as a warming station until 9:00 PM. Please note that telephone and internet services are unavailable, and all ice surface activities and rentals have been cancelled.
The Committee of Adjustment (COA) and the regular Council meetings scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, has been postponed. A rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.
Curbside collection of garbage and recycling within the Township of North Kawartha has been cancelled for today, Monday, March 31, 2025. A double collection will be accepted on Monday. April 7, 2025.

Declaration of a Significant Weather Event

The Township of North Kawartha has made the decision to declare a Significant Weather Event, as per Ontario Regulation 239/02, "Minimum Maintenance Standards". 

Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain warning with ice accretion in excess of 25mm possible. Freezing Rain is projected to start this evening, March 28, 2025, and continue through Monday, March 31, 2025.

A significant weather event is defined as an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose significant danger to the users of the Township road network. 

The Township of North Kawartha wants to be clear to our residents that a declaration of a significant weather event only addresses the timelines and does not reduce the level of service provided by our Roads Department. The declarations primary objective is to notify the residents of North Kawartha, that due to the current forecasted conditions, caution needs to be exercised when travelling on Township Maintained roads and drive accordingly based on road conditions until the roads have been properly serviced by the sanders.

Public Notice: Reduced Load Restrictions in Effect Starting March 10, 2025

Starting March 10, 2025, reduced load restrictions will be in effect for all Township of North Kawartha roads.

Reduced load restrictions are applied each spring during the thaw when the road network is most vulnerable to help prevent permanent damages to pavement and surface treated roads.

While in the reduced load restrictions are in place, vehicles are restricted to load limits of 5 tonnes per axle.
