Hydro One Update - Safety Communication - April 6

Hydro One crews continue to work safely and quickly to restore power to areas hit by last weekend’s devastating ice storm.

Starting on Sunday, April 6 and continuing until restoration is complete, crews with heavy equipment will be working along the west side of Anstruther Lake in North Kawartha. During this period, drivers on Beaver Lake Road near Catchacoma (off Highway 507) and Fire Routes 240 and 247 can expect elevated levels of Hydro One traffic.

As always, safety is our top priority. We ask residents and anyone visiting a secondary property to:

  • Drive carefully in proximity of our crews.
  • Stay at least 100 metres clear of the Hydro One work zone due to flying debris and the removal of hazardous trees.
  • Please avoid parking vehicles in turnaround areas or too close to property entrances. This is so we can move our heavy equipment and restore power more quickly.

Please also remember the following safety tips:

  • Turn off the stove or any elements that may have been in use when the power went out along with any other major appliances. We are receiving reports from multiple fire departments that this continues to be a big concern.
  • Some areas are also affected by flooding. If flooding occurs at your home or cottage and water starts to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, customers should call us at 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected.
  • Customers that have damage to their home or cottage’s electrical equipment (ex. stack/pipe where the powerline from the road connects to their home), need to have a licensed electrician make the necessary repairs. Customers can learn more about the steps to take through the Electrical Safety Authority- https://esasafe.com/safety/storm-safety/restoring-power/.
  • Customers in the process of having a licensed electrician install a generator should follow the instructions below to avoid the temporary disconnection requirement and breaking the meter seal - Flash 25-15-FL.
