Due to the heavy rainfall on the 2nd and 3rd of April combined with the ongoing snowmelt of the remaining snowpack water levels and flows are rising at a rate which may cause flooding.

Sand and Sand bags are available to the public just inside the sand dome located at the The Township of North Kawartha Roads Garage 10230 Highway 28. Bring a shovel!

If flooding is imminent and there is threat to person or property call 9-1-1

The Municipal Office, at 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley, will remain closed on Friday, April 4, 2025, due to ongoing service disruptions resulting from limited internet and phone communications. Municipal business will continue with Municipal staff and Council being available to the public at 705-656-4445 or direct lines or emails by using our Contact Us directory on the website or reception@northkawartha.ca or firstnameinitial.lastname@northkawartha.ca

Power outages persist across many areas. Residents are urged to stay away (10 metres) from downed power lines even if they do not appear to be live. Report power line damage to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
9-1-1 is for emergencies. To contact Hydro One, call 1-800-434-1235 or text ‘WATTS’ for updates. Information on Hydro One outage alerts can be found at https://www.hydroone.com/power-outages-and-safety/outage-tools
Warming Centres:·       North Kawartha Community Centre at 340 McFadden Road (open until 9:00 p.m.) ·       North Kawartha Public Library – Apsley Branch- 175 Burleigh Street
At this time Riverview Park and Quarry Bay Beach are closed to the public.
Roads
Crews are working to clear debris from municipal roads over the next several weeks. To report a roads emergency after hours please call 705-742-6823.For County Road emergency after hours please call 705-742-4862.
Storm Debris
The Anstruther and Haultain Transfer Stations are accepting brush (no stumps) from the storm.  Debris is accepted free of charge and debris over 6” in diameter needs to be separated.
Food Waste
Fridge and Freezer waste is also accepted for free at the Anstruther and Haultain Transfer Stations.  A reminder to use clear bags for garbage disposal.
The above Storm Debris services at the Anstruther and Haultain Transfer Stations are for North Kawartha Residents only.

Other Storm Debris Locations
Peterborough County residents may drop off brush free until April 14th at the following Public Works Depots:·       Douro – 713 County Road 4 ·       Millbrook – 1111 County Road 10 ·       Centreline – 1275 County Road 24 ·       Havelock – 649 County Road 46 ·       Buckhorn – 2467 County Road 36
Please place brush in designated areas and follow signage at each Depot.

Road Closure Update April 4, 2025

  • Haultain Road is closed due to flooding
  • Mill Lake Road is flooded between the bridge and civic address number 73

The following roads are now open

  • Windsor road is now open
  • Renwick road is now open
  • McCauley’s road is now open

Update: Jack Lake Road north of Shady Lane is now open 1 Lane

April 4, 2025 Update -  Open 1 Lane
A portion of Jack Lake Road, north of Shady Lane located in the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen was washed out due to water overflow on April 3 and is now open to 1 lane of traffic.  This portion is just north of Shady Lane.  

Public Notice: Reduced Load Restrictions in Effect Starting March 10, 2025

Starting March 10, 2025, reduced load restrictions will be in effect for all Township of North Kawartha roads.

Reduced load restrictions are applied each spring during the thaw when the road network is most vulnerable to help prevent permanent damages to pavement and surface treated roads.

While in the reduced load restrictions are in place, vehicles are restricted to load limits of 5 tonnes per axle.
