Winter Maintenance and Snow Removal

Depending on the weather conditions, winter road patrol is performed seven days a week from October 1 until April 1. The Municipal roads system is broken into four routes with each route taking roughly 8 to 10 hours to plow once.

Ontario Provincial Police and Emergency Services remind all homeowners when clearing driveways of snow not to pile the snow onto the travelled portions of the road or highway. It is unlawful and hazardous.

Sand (with salt incorporated) is available to Township of North Kawartha residents, to help you keep your property safe in the winter. No commercial businesses or contractors please.

In an effort to assist with residents’ concerns regarding winter ice on their private driveways and paths sand the Township now has the winter weather sand/salt mix available to residents for pick up at the following locations:

• Public Works Garage, 10230 Highway 28, Apsley, ON
• Wilson Park Community Centre, 66 Northey's Bay Road, Woodview, ON
• Glen Alda Community Centre, 3723 Highway 620, Apsley, ON

Salt is not available to the public.

Please bring a shovel and storage container when you visit.

No commercial businesses or contractors please.

Stay safe, stay visible! Please keep your lights on while collecting sand and yield to Township staff
