Road Construction and/or Closures

Dunford Road Maintenance 

Starting Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Drain Brothers Excavating, in partnership with the Township of North Kawartha, will begin ditch maintenance and culvert replacements on Dunford Road in preparation for the road resurfacing project scheduled for later this summer. Drain Brothers is expected to be on Dunford Road for approximately 3 weeks, weather permitting. Minor traffic delays near the maintenance work can be anticipated. Please drive with caution when approaching Drain Brothers Excavating staff or equipment.

Don Wilson Road to the Turnaround at Coon Lake Road 

Don Wilson Road to the turnaround on Coon Lake Road will continue to undergo maintenance starting Monday, June 10, 2024, which will result in one-lane traffic in the vicinity of the maintenance work. Please drive with caution when approaching North Kawartha Road staff or equipment.

Eels Creek Bridge Reconstruction

No scheduled closures upon North Kawartha Municipal Roads at this time. 

Please be advised that Bellai Alliance Civil Inc. will be conducting reconstruction works along the Highway 28 Right-of-Way at the Eels Creek Bridge located at the Eels Creek Rest Area (approx. 13.3km North of Burleigh Falls). Work is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2024, and conclude in August 2025.

Replacement of the HWY 28 Bridge Structure over Eels Creek will be completed in two (2) stages with the bridge reduced to one lane. Access across the structure will be controlled with temporary traffic signals. A winter shutdown of operations will occur between December 2024 – May 2025.  

Traffic Impacts:

Traffic will encounter single lane closures along Highway 28 NBL and SBL with one lane remaining open at all times. Vehicular access across Eels creek will be controlled via temporary traffic signals.
