Ice Storm Update

The freezing rainstorm has left the municipality coping with the resulting power outages.  Cleanup is underway and Hydro One crews are working hard to restore power, although full restoration may take a few days.

Who to Call in an Emergency

  • Call 911 for immediate danger to life or property. Do not call 911 for hydro outage reporting or outage updates

Roads

  • Please do not place your brush on the roadside. You are responsible for disposing of your brush at the locations below.

  • Do not pile debris on municipal roadways or ditches

  • Roads crews are chipping Township debris only in front of residences

  • The Declaration of a Significant Weather Event has been lifted.

Storm Debris

Brush Drop-Off

  • Please do not place your brush on the roadside. You are responsible for disposing of your brush at the locations below.

  • Do not pile debris on municipal roadways or ditches

The Anstruther and Haultain Transfer Stations are accepting brush (no stumps) from the storm.  Debris is accepted free of charge and debris over 6” in diameter needs to be separated.

Garbage & Recycling Collection

  • If your collection was missed last week due to the storm, you may put out double on your next regular collection day.

Power Outages

Power outages persist across many areas. Residents are urged to stay away (10 metres) from downed power lines even if they do not appear to be live. Report power line damage to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.

9-1-1 is for emergencies.

  • Stay 10 metres away from any downed power lines and report them to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.

  • Report outages via text to 92887 (WATTS), the Hydro One app, or outage map.

  • Power out? Call 1-800-434-1235, text 92887 (WATTS), the Hydro One app or visit HydroOne.com for updates. Tools update every 10 mins.

Sand and Sandbags are available to the public just inside the sand dome located at the Township of North Kawartha Roads Garage 10230 Highway 28. Bring a shovel!

Protect Your Home from Flooding

Where safe to do so:

  • Clear debris from gutters, eavestroughs, and downspouts
  • If water reaches electrical systems (like outlets or furnace), call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235 to safely disconnect power
  • Never enter flooded areas unless power is off

Warming Centres:

  • North Kawartha Community Centre at 340 McFadden Road (open until 9:00 p.m.)

  • North Kawartha Public Library – Apsley Branch- 175 Burleigh Street

Carbon Monoxide Safety Alert

Make sure you’re taking the proper precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones from dangerous carbon monoxide exposure.

  • Always operate your generator outdoors - Never place generators near windows, doors, or vents.
  • Refuel with care – Turn off the generator before refueling and allow it to cool down. Fuel safety is key
  • Don’t overload your generator – Only use what your generator is rated for.
  • Don’t run BBQs or charcoal grills inside or in enclosed spaces — even in the garage!
  • Check your wood stove to make sure it’s venting properly to avoid the build-up of harmful gases.
  • Install carbon monoxide detectors in your home and test them regularly!

At this time Riverview Park and Quarry Bay Beach are closed to the public.
