We are pleased that you have chosen to purchase property in North Kawartha. Welcome!

If you are a new property owner you will receive a Welcome Package by mail which contains valuable information about your Township departments and services. If you are a new renter, you will receive a welcome package but without a waste pass, this is the responsibility of the property owner to provide you with this.

If you are a new resident in the Township and have not received a package, please contact us to receive a Welcome Package by mail or pick one up in person at the municipal office.

Daycare

Compass Early Learning and Care is a non-profit charitable corporation dedicated to providing excellence in early learning and care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years.

Compass Early Learning and Care - Apsley Program operates at the Apsley Central Public School.

Established in 1981, we have grown from a small home child care program in Peterborough City and County to a multi program corporation with 30 licensed programs caring for over 900 children daily in the City of Kawartha Lakes, the County and City of Peterborough and the Region of Durham. Our programs include full day child care, nursery school, and before and after school programs. Each program is unique with hours of service ranging from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Our home child care program offers flexible hours of care, depending on the individual care provider.

Peterborough Child and Family Centres

Apsley Play to Learn Program

This EarlyON parent child interactive program offers an engaging environment to explore and create with your children and to connect with other families. Professional staff are available to support your learning as well as share resources and their expertise when needed. All families with children aged birth to six years are welcome at this drop in program.

North Kawartha is home to the Apsley Central Public School, part of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and provides education to students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 and High Schools

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board provides Catholic education to students Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 and High Schools.

High schools are located in Peterborough and Bancroft.

Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario

Hydro One is the supplier of electricity in the Township. Visit Hydro One for more information. There is no municipal water or sewer. Most people have septic systems or holding tanks. There is no natural gas.

Ontario Electricity Support Program

Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) offers an electricity credit to eligible low-income households. Factors in determining eligibility include:

  • How many people live in your household
  • Combined household income
  • If your home is electrically heated
  • If you rely on medical devices requiring a lot of electricity

For more information, see the brochure or contact OESP or call 1-855-831-8151 (toll free in Ontario) or 1-800-855-1155 (TTY to TTY).  You may also pick up an application package at the Municipal Office, 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley.

There are no natural gas lines located in the Township. Heating of homes is done with electricity, propane, furnace oil or wood stoves or a combination. Please see our Community Directory for further information about private providers.

There are no municipal water or sewage services in the Township. Private wells and septic systems are the responsibility of the property owner. Septic system permits are issued by the Township.

There are internet services in the form of dial-up, DSL, satellite and Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) available in most parts of the Township. Internet services are available from various private providers.

Wi-Fi is available for free at our public libraries and the North Kawartha Community Centre (NKCC).
