Transfer Station Hours, Information & Other Facilities

Transfer Stations Hours Information Line: 705-656-4361

The Township of North Kawartha is responsible for the two Township Transfer Stations (at Anstruther and Haultain). They are not “dump” sites, they are “transfer” sites, where items are collected in large bins, and the bins are then transferred elsewhere for processing.

Curbside Garbage Collection is contracted to a company called Waste Connections, while Curbside Recycling Collection is contracted to a company called Emterra Environmental.

Circular Materials is the organization that is enabling Ontario’s transition to extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging. This is the first step towards enhanced recycling across the province. EPR is a framework in which producers (the businesses that supply paper and packaging to residents) are responsible for funding and managing the end-of-life management of these materials. For complete information regarding the change, its implications, and answers to Frequently Asked Questions, please visit our Blue Box Transition to Producer page.

Mattresses

The County and City of Peterborough along with the Townships, are always investigating and taking advantage of new recycling programs to divert Waste from the Bensfort Road, Waste Management Facility, in an effort to prolong its life.  As such, Mattresses and Box Springs are now 'Recyclable' products and are only accepted at the Bensfort Road Landfill Site. Residents are requested to bring the mattresses as dry and clean as possible to assist with the recycling program. A "tipping" fee will apply.

Under the recycling program, the Township is no longer able to accept these items at either Transfer Station. However, as a convenience to our North Kawartha residents, Mattresses and Box Springs are accepted at the Anstruther Transfer Station on Special Clean-Up DaysTipping fees apply.

Household Furniture

Household furniture such as couches, padded chairs, etc., are only accepted at the Bensfort Road, Waste Management Facility. However, as was noted above regarding mattresses, as a convenience to our North Kawartha residents, we accept these items at the Anstruther Transfer Station on Special Clean-Up Days. Additionally, please note that items such as coffee tables, and other furniture if made entirely of wood qualify as residential Construction and Demolition materials, and can be accepted at the Anstruther Transfer Station from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving Day. Tipping fees apply. In addition, some items may qualify for acceptance at our Re-Use Depot
