Textile Donation Bins

The Township of North Kawartha has partnered with Diabetes Canada on a textile recycling program to help support textile diversion in our community. Year-round, there are collection bins, for (free) textile recycling at both the Anstruther and Haultain Transfer Stations.

Acceptable Material:

  • Accessories and bags
  • Clothing (all types)
  • Curtains
  • General household textiles (towels, blankets, sheets)
  • Shoes and boots
  • Sleeping bags

Non-acceptable Material:

  • Household items
  • Electronics and sports equipment
  • Organics and hazardous materials
  • Any other textile items that do not fit inside the bin

About the Program:

Each year, the Diabetes Canada textile recycling program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. This translates into savings of 1 billion kWh of energy - Equivalent to removing 212,087 cars from roads - Saves 7,257.44 mature trees - Conserves 167,828.30 liters of water - and reduces our carbon footprint by 280 million pounds of CO2.

Since 1985, Diabetes Canada reusable goods donation program has enjoyed an exclusive partnership with Value Village where all donations generate funding to support Diabetes Canada.

Diabetes Canada is responsible for soliciting, picking up and delivering goods to Value Village stores. The program is paid based upon the volume of goods delivered. Through this partnership, Diabetes Canada raises $8.7 million annually (net), where proceeds raised support diabetes research, education, programs, services & advocacy.
