Scrap Metal and Tires
Scrap metal
Scrap metal is accepted year-round at both transfer stations, free of charge, and consists of items that are made primarily of aluminum, brass, copper, iron, tin, and/or steel.
These items (made of metal) include but are not limited to: mowers, snow blowers, oil tanks (if the gas and oil have been completely removed and there is no residue), tire rims (tires removed), BBQs (propane tanks removed), bicycles, hot water tanks, cooking utensils, fencing/posts, filing cabinets, shelves, bed frames, wiring, sinks, faucets, pipe fittings, patio furniture, screen door frames, storm windows, siding, nuts/bolts/nails/screws, tools, etc.
Many types of appliances (not containing a refrigerant) are also considered scrap metal, i.e. toasters, toaster ovens, microwaves, ovens, washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc. Some items thought of as waste electronics, or C & D (construction and demolition material) may actually be scrap metal.
If you are unsure of a classification, ask one of our friendly Transfer Station attendants.
Tires
North Kawartha residents may take the following used tires to either transfer station, free of charge.
